Green Power

Join the Green Generation!

Southern Rivers Energy is a member of Green Power EMC – a partnership of 37 electric cooperatives in Georgia offering Green Power to their members.

In a nutshell, "Green Power" is electricity generated from renewable or more environmentally friendly sources. This means less impact on air, water and other natural resources. Typical Green Power technologies include: biomass, solar, wind, and water (low impact hydro). Biomass includes landfill gas and agricultural wastes.

Green Power EMC is Green-e CertifiedThe Green-e Energy logo helps consumers easily identify environmentally superior renewable energy options. For more information on Green-e Energy certification requirements, call 1-888-63-GREEN or log on to

Every kilowatt-hour produced from green energy resources offsets power that would be produced using traditional generation sources. Every megawatt of electricity generated from Green Power is equivalent to: Taking 9,333 cars off the road. Planting 12,666 acres of forest; or Displacing the use of 210 railroad cars of coal.

Through Green Power EMC, we are able to participate in a unique program designed to educate students and teachers about renewable energy and its impact on the environment.

We partnered with Lamar County Middle School in 2008 to install a 1 kilowatt (kW) grid-tied photovoltaic system to harness the energy from the sun and provide on-line data monitoring to the classroom. The solar panel can be viewed behind the gym on the hill above the Trojan Athletic Complex on Burnette Rd.
