SRE Trust Awards 15 Scholarships

SRE Trust announces 15 local scholarship winners!

The Southern Rivers Energy Trust, Inc. is proud to announce the 15 recipients of the 2011 Southern Rivers Energy Trust Scholarship.

Based on the four core values under which Touchstone Energy Cooperatives like Southern Rivers Energy operate, applicants were required to answer four essay questions regarding their Commitment to Community, Accountability, Innovation and Integrity. These traits along with school academics and extra curricular activities were used to determine the recipients of the 2011 Southern Rivers Energy Trust Scholarship. The 15 scholarships, worth $1000 each, will be awarded to the following students:

  • Galen Hughes of Lizella graduated from Central Fellowship Christian Academy and will attend Georgia State College and University.
  • Lauren Walters of Forsyth graduated from Mary Persons High School and will attend North Georgia College and State University.
  • Jessica Horne of Culloden graduated from Mary Persons High School and will attend Kennesaw State University.
  • Paige Johns of Forsyth graduated from Mary Persons High School and will attend either Young Harris College, Kennesaw State University, or Armstrong Atlantic.
  • Thomas Chambley of Yatesville graduated from Upson-Lee High School and will attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
  • Megan Matthews of Griffin graduated from Spalding High School and has been accepted to the University of Georgia and the University of Vermont.
  • Candace Cosnahan of Lizella graduated from Rutland High School and will attend either Mercer University or Georgia College and State University.
  • Stephen Thomas of Lizella graduated from Covenant Academy and will attend Auburn University.
  • Mackinnon Perkins of Macon graduated from Westside High School and will attend Macon State College.
  • Maria Westerfield of Molena graduated from Pike County High School and will attend North Georgia College and State University.
  • Lindsey Gaff of Milner is currently attending the University of Georgia.
  • Destiny Holden of Macon graduated from Mary Persons High School and will attend the University of Georgia.
  • Sarah Muccillo of Meansville is currently attending Gordon College.
  • Jennifer Devereaux of Forsyth is currently attending Covenant College.
  • Abigail Rowe of Barnesville graduated from Lamar County Comprehensive High School and will attend the University of Georgia.
  • Galen Hughes of Lizella graduated from Westside High School and will attend the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Thank you to all the students who applied and remember that as long you are pursuing an undergraduate degree and meet the other criteria, you are eligible to apply again next year.
