Part of what sets electric membership cooperatives or EMCs apart from the larger investor-owned utilities (IOUs) is that EMCs are not-for-profit. This means that any revenue that is collected after covering our operating costs is returned to our members in the form of Capital Credits based on each member's energy usage for a given year. Southern Rivers Energy typically refunds capital credits in December.

Notice of Last Date to Claim 2017 Capital Credit Checks
In compliance with O.C.G.A. § 44-12-236 of The Disposition of Unclaimed Property Act, Southern Rivers Energy is attempting to locate former members whose capital credit checks were issued in 2017 but have been returned by the U.S. Post Office as “undeliverable” or have otherwise been unclaimed.
A current list of these members, with their last known addresses and instructions for claiming these funds, is listed below and at our corporate office at 1367 Hwy 341 South in Barnesville, GA, for review between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM, Mon. – Fri.
The last possible date to claim these funds is August 28, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. If these funds are not claimed by this date, they will be donated for charitable uses, as permitted by O.C.G.A. § 44-12-236.
