The Southern Rivers Energy Trust awards scholarships each spring to support local students pursuing higher education. Recipients were selected from a competitive pool and evaluated blindly by a panel of educators based on essays, GPA, and community and school involvement.
2026 Scholarship Winners
Scholarships worth $3,000 each will be awarded to the following students:
Anna Foster of Griffin, a senior at Spalding County High School, plans to attend the University of Georgia.
Simms Goodwin of Woodbury, a senior at Flint River Academy, plans to attend Auburn University.
Emma Ison of Griffin, a senior at St. George’s Episcopal School, plans to attend the University of Georgia or Auburn University.
Bonnie Kate Matthews of Barnesville, a senior at St. George’s Episcopal School, plans to attend the University of Georgia or Georgia Southern University.
Asa Scott of Macon, a senior at Tattnall Square Academy, plans to attend the University of Georgia.
Brendon Weaver of Zebulon is a student at Gordon State College.
The SRE Trust Scholarship program is funded by SRE’s Operation Round Up program. In addition to scholarships, the SRE Trust funds Bright Ideas teacher grants and grants for deserving community or civic groups and individuals. Next year’s scholarship competition opens Oct. 1.
