Cooperation among Cooperatives is one of the guiding principles for cooperatives. When severe weather hits, electric cooperatives help each other by sharing crews and resources to restore power quickly and safely.
Southern Rivers Energy stands by this principle by participating in mutual aid agreements with fellow EMCs, in and out of state. When our community needs help, other co-ops step in to support us, and we do the same for them. By working together, no cooperative has to face a major storm alone.
At the height of Winter Storm Fern, more than 1 million Americans lost power, including an estimated 400,000 electric Cooperative members.
Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association in Yazoo, Mississippi, sustained heavy damage to its distribution system, leaving more than 70 percent of its members without power. Southern Rivers Energy responded to Yazoo Valley’s call for help by sending a five-man crew to work alongside more than 100 others to help repair the system. As restoration efforts continue, please keep our linemen and everyone affected by Winter Storm Fern in your thoughts and prayers.
